Building Independence Through Practical Life Activities

At Gracey Private School, Ibadan, learning goes beyond books and worksheets. Today, our little learners participated in a meaningful Practical Life Activity — folding socks!

Though simple, this hands-on activity plays a powerful role in a child’s development. Practical life exercises are designed to help children master everyday skills while building essential abilities that support academic and personal growth.

Why Folding Socks Matters

Through this activity, our pupils developed:

Fine motor skills – strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers

Hand–eye coordination – learning to control movements with precision

Concentration and focus – paying attention to each step of the task

Independence – building confidence in doing things by themselves

A sense of order and responsibility – understanding that small tasks matter

In the Early Years, activities like folding, pouring, sorting, and organizing lay the foundation for discipline, patience, and problem-solving. These are not just classroom tasks — they are life skills.

Learning in the Little Moments

At Gracey Private School, we believe real learning happens in the little moments. When a child successfully folds a sock, it is more than just a completed task — it is a victory. It is confidence built. It is focus strengthened. It is responsibility nurtured.

Our pupils demonstrated remarkable concentration and enthusiasm, showing that even the simplest activities can create meaningful learning experiences.

We are proud of our young learners and the steady growth we see in them every day.

Up GRACEY! We catch them young!!!
